Recession hits 2010 Games, budget to be hiked

The global economic meltdown has hit the preparation of 2010 Commonwealth Games and Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi on Tuesday said the budget for the mega-event will be increased in view of the financial crisis. "The budget for the Games will be increased slightly considering the escalating prices of raw material used in construction. The prices of steel and cement are currently high and we have to take that into consideration," Kalmadi said on Tuesday.

IAS officer, called a hero and then scamster, dies

Senior bureaucrat Gautam Goswami, who was Time magazine's 'Asian Hero' in 2004 but later was booked for corruption, died of pancreatic cancer in Patna on Tuesday. He was 41. Goswami, a 1991 batch IAS officer, has been battling for life for the past several months and his end came at a private nursing home. He is survived by his doctor wife and two sons.

US says Hamas, 26/11 attackers are the same

Bush blames Hamas, backs Israeli offensive in Gaza
